Greetings Rotarians and members of the GNMRC. As I write this I am in WA, Australia and I am loving being back in this part of the world where I lived and worked 1980-1990s. The scratchy voice that I had at the meeting last week has healed somewhat with some lovely sea air.
We have many activities for our club in the next 6 weeks and information about all events can be found below. I look forward to seeing as many members as possible at our strategic planning night and also our changeover to celebrate Mavis taking up the President role for the next year.
Congratulations to Rotarians Shelley and Joyce for a great webinar at the recent Limerick Conference. I thoroughly enjoyed being with a number of motivated colleagues via zoom from around the world discussing possibilities for better health provision care in rural and remote areas globally. Stay tuned for more updates from Shelley & Joyce.
Enjoy the bulletin, enjoy all that we offer as a Rotary Club and remember promote our club and Three C's Cafe at every opportunity to you.
Travel safe.

Projects
We are a very busy Club - below is a snapshot of the projects that we are currently involved in.
The Three C's Cafe
The Three C's Cafe Check-in, Connect, and Chat is a virtual cafe space facilitated by members of the GNMRC who have been trained to offer a supportive environment for Nurses and Midwives to share mutual experiences, concerns, and feelings in a confidential, safe space.
The cafe sessions are available via a zoom link which you will be given once you register for a session. Each cafe session will last one hour.
Shelter Box is an exceptional organisation that our Club has partnered with. They provide emergency relief to people around the world who have been made homeless by natural disasters and conflict.
We have pledged to fund five Shelter Boxes each year for the next 5 years. The cost is $1000 per Shelter Box and we raise funds for this through raffles and events held at Education Conferences conducted by the Nurses for Nurses Network and Education at Sea.
Wendy McIntosh and Cecelia Flomo head up this project.
The Florence Nightingale International Foundation (FNIF), the charitable arm of ICN, launched the Girl Child Education Fund (GCEF) in 2005 with the mission of supporting access to education for the orphaned daughters of nurses in developing countries.
The Rotary Solar Case has been developed, first and foremost, to provide light in remote health centres, aiding health workers where the availability of electricity is problematic at the best of times. The ability to provide portable lights for village birthing assistants is a major priority in areas where women often give birth in village huts or village health centres where the light from kerosene lanterns or mobile phones is otherwise the best available alternative.
Please find attached a proposal that our members have been asked to review by District Governor Elect Paul Roger. Everyone is invited to read it and provide comments to me which I will then share with Paul from our members. At this stage this is an idea, however Paul will be especially keen to hear from our members who have experience / knowledge of the country and health systems of the Congo.
Recently President Wendy and Rotarian Rudson met via zoom with members of the Rotary Club Ozamie North (Phillipines), President John - Rotary Club of Mandurah (WA) and Darcy Geale RSC (NSW) - to discuss and explore the possibilities of us being able to send 1-2 RSCs to the Phillipines. It was a great example of partnership and collegiality within Rotary and we all feel positive that we can make this happen.
Wendy & Rudson caught up for a meal in Perth 22nd June and we have exciting news to share. The RC Mandurah will be able to send four RSC’s to Phillipines. One case will go in July and we will pilot that one. Based on feedback and what needs to be changed specifically for the Phillipines Rudson will return to the Phillipines in August / September with three RSC’s to personally hand over to recipients. This is a great example of how Imagining in Rotary, can make things happen.

Everything is, was, and will be you.
Congratulations Rotarian and GNMRC member Rudson for presenting at a TED talk.
Rudson is continually updating our club social media of Facebook and Instagram and Deborah Jackson updates our Twitter. As you feel OK to do so follow us and share postings that you think would be beneficial for colleagues in your organisations and collegial groups to view. Rotary Fellowships are international groups that share a common passion. Being part of a fellowship is a fun way to make friends around the world, explore a hobby or profession, and enhance your Rotary experience.
Every month the fabulous Pammie Ellem hosts a live education session. This session is then recorded and made available for members to view at a date and time that suits them.
If the content is relevant to your work you can claim it as a continuing professional development (CPD) activity and there is a CPD Certificate template that you can use to document the activity.
Fun Weekend ! Join us for a weekend of shenanigans, fun and laughter.
Where? Caloundra
When? Friday 9th to Sunday 11th September 2022
Why? ... because Caloundra offers many activities like
golf, the beach, cafes, walking, restaurants ... as members of the GNMRC, we can create our own fun time together. No pressures just a good time to look forward to.
If you cannot make the weekend do not worry we will be organising a virtual get tougher during that weekend for members who cannot attend in person.
RSVP your interest by 30th June to Mhairi Mackinnon - wine37@optusnet.com.au. If you want to find out more about this fun time email Mhairi for more information.
Adenlyl is a registered nurse with about 18 years of practice experience. He
immigrated to Australia in 2007 and worked in various clinical roles in Australia until 2015 when he joined Central Queensland University. Currently he teaches undergraduate nursing students at the Mackay city campus, Queensland.
Education Session 26 July 2022
Joy Matthews is currently teaching at Central Queensland University and based in Bundaberg, QLD, Joy also works at a small rural multi-purpose hospital and health centre in rural Queensland. Before settling into teaching joy worked in the parts of Australia that most people never get to see, from the Tanami Desert to the Torres Strait Islands, and across the top end from the Indian Ocean Territory to Arnhem Land. Joy describes herself as a “MacGyver nurse”, where working in unusual locations with limited resources means you sometimes have to be a jack of all trades, creatively working with what you have, not what you wish you had!
If you want to know the date of any of the Club Meetings or Events then go to the events page on the website.
Meeting agenda's and minutes are sent out by the club Secretary attached to an email a few days before the meeting takes place. If you are not receiving those emails then contact the Club Secretary on secretary.gnmrotaryclub@gamail.com
