Presidents Update

Hi GNMRC Members and Friends,
 
It has been a busy start to the year.  Our club has been blessed with having great education sessions.   Our February guest was Eliza Strauss, a bereavement midwife and founder of the Perinatal Loss Centre in Melbourne. This Tuesday, March 24th, we welcome Jo Oughton, a school based youth health nurse and prostate cancer specialist nurse. I encourage you to attend and to invite your colleagues as well. 
 
Our members meeting have been very well attended with an inspiring presentation from our member Retche Pelin who shared a powerful message on advocacy.  Princess May Suico shared the latest updates on the Solar Birthing Case Project our March meeting.  A powerful collaboration between GNMRC, Rotary Club of Mandurah District, Rotary Club of Pinjarra, and Rotary Club of Ozamiz North.
 
Our Coffee Catch up sessions have been very successful - thank you to our member Tracy Martin who has been facilitating these with me.  
Congratulations to our newest member, Faith Chiwungwe, who was inducted at our March members meeting.  Our club warmly welcomes you.

Congratulations to two members of our club who Dr Patience Mashudu Tulelo Ph.D  and Dr Nombulelo Zenani Ph.D who have both been awarded Ph.Ds this year.

News from Rotary Down Under
News from Rotary Zone 8
Disaster Fund
Shelter Box is an exceptional organisation that our Club has partnered with. They provide emergency relief to people around the world who have been made homeless by natural disasters and conflict.
 
We have pledged to fund five Shelter Boxes each year for the next 3 years. The cost is $1000 per Shelter Box and we raise funds for this through raffles and events held at Education Conferences conducted by the Nurses for Nurses Network and Education at Sea.
 
A big thank you to the work of Sue and Jason to make this happen.

Rotary Solar Case
The Rotary Solar Case has been developed, first and foremost, to provide light in remote health centres, aiding health workers where the availability of electricity is problematic at the best of times. The ability to provide portable lights for village birthing assistants is a major priority in areas where women often give birth in village huts or village health centres where the light from kerosene lanterns or mobile phones is otherwise the best available alternative.
