Presidents Update
Greetings GNMRC Members
Hello to you all from
President Sally

Hello Fellow Rotarians and Friends,

May is one of those busy months for us professionally - where we celebrate who we are.
The International Day of the Midwife - was on the 5th May and thank you President Salem for presenting our club to your leaders and colleagues in Tanzania.

On the 12th May we celebrate International Nurses Day.

Both days allow us professional, collegially and as citizens to acknowledge the work that we do as nurses and midwives.

This month we have two great presentations. On Tuesday 14th May we have colleague Claire Lane founder of Save our Supplies she will share her journey from being a theatre nurse to travelling to different countries donating hospital supplies that would otherwise have been disposed of from theatres and hospitals. Come and join us for our usual Tuesday meeting and hear from Claire

On Tuesday 28th May our education experience presenter is Rotarian and member of the GNMRC Tricia Davidson whose presentation Emerging from the Pandemic Lessons learnt and moving forward will be very insightful. Tricia is the Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Woollongong and her presentation will be insightful and provide much valuable data for us to consider.

Please invite colleagues to join us both nights - we love having guests to share our experiences with us.

Flyers for both evenings are in this bulletin and the zoom link for both evenings is our usual zoom link that we have been using this year

Review of Constitution and Club Rules
Our District now has a new template for club constitution and rules. It is timely then that our members revise and update our constitution and rules. The leadership team discussed these at the leadership meeting on the 8th April and is awaiting feedback from members.

Club Changeover
President Elect Rudson has nominated Tuesday the 9th July for his changeover event. Rudson will provide more information to us about his theme for the event. This will be the time where President Salem can reflect on her year as President. Remember changeover is also where our club presents a Paul Harris fellow to a deserving club member or colleague in the broader community. If you would like to nominate someone for consideration please email Rotary Foundation Lead Cecelia at: ceceliakf1@yahoo.com and President Salem at: sally_d38@hotmail.com

Next month, the theme is Youth Service Month.

South Pacific & Philippines Office

Pacific children get health boost with government immunization commitments

Nine Pacific countries have committed to greater protection for children against life threatening diseases by adopting an immunisation program that has been implemented by UNICEF in collaboration with Ministries of Health and funding from Rotary since 2020.

The commitment will see vaccines for Pneumococcal Disease, Rotavirus, and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) added to the nations’ National Essential Programs for Immunisation. The adoption of the vaccines will benefit children in Vanuatu, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, Cook Islands, Nauru, Niue, Tokelau and Kiribati.

Since the Rotary ‘Give Every Child a Future’ project’s inception it has supported the countries to strengthen the supply chain, including the cold chain system to ensure that every child has timely access to safe and potent vaccines.

To date, fundraisers from Rotary have contributed US$3.9 million.

Disaster Fund
Shelter Box is an exceptional organisation that our Club has partnered with. They provide emergency relief to people around the world who have been made homeless by natural disasters and conflict.

We have pledged to fund five Shelter Boxes each year for the next 3 years. The cost is $1000 per Shelter Box and we raise funds for this through raffles and events held at Education Conferences conducted by the Nurses for Nurses Network and Education at Sea.

A big thank you to the work of Sue, Jason and Louise to make this happen. Shelterbox is very active in Turkey and Syria due to the recent devastating earthquakes.
Rotary Solar Case
The Rotary Solar Case has been developed, first and foremost, to provide light in remote health centres, aiding health workers where the availability of electricity is problematic at the best of times. The ability to provide portable lights for village birthing assistants is a major priority in areas where women often give birth in village huts or village health centres where the light from kerosene lanterns or mobile phones is otherwise the best available alternative.
