June 13th was a very successful changeover meeting. Please see the link below for Sally's acceptance as our new president and her hopes for the upcoming year for our club.
Tomorrow, 11th July, we have our first club meeting on the year with President Sally leading us in the meeting. Please see Sally's welcome speech in the link above.
Our guest presenter is John Paskin who will be telling us about RAWCS. If you click on the link below you will find our more about RAWCS and ways in which we might be able to engage RAWCS to assist us with future club projects moving forward.
We will be inducting our newest member, Maria Clemente tomorrow evening. at
Many of you will be aware that Maria has already started engaging in club work before she is inducted, including coordinating our fund raising recipe book and writing articles for us for submission to inform colleagues and Rotarians about our GNMRC. If we are lucky some of our members who attended the ICN Congress in Montreal (Mavis, Shelley, Cecelia and Trish) can share some stories of their experiences there.
Nursing Essentials Conference on the 20th & 21st July
Here is the link for the fund raiser that is being organised by Sue (thank you) and as you know some of our members have volunteered their time to be involved over the 2 days. For those of you who live in Qld especially please forward this link to colleagues and invite them to come along.
We also now have a page on our website dedicated to the fund raiser and I invite all of you to invite colleagues to share the link and reason for the conference.

Global Nurses & Midwives Rotary Club - GNMRC e-Cook Book - a project all members of the club can participate in
Our writing team Maria, Shehla, Dolly and Wendy are delighted to say we are now ready to do the next step in our GNMRC e-cook book. We envisage our readers will be Rotarians, nursing & midwifery colleagues and more general public who like cooking and stories. Be on the lookout for an email from Wendy asking you to submit your recipes.
We need you, our members, to make this the best Rotary Club possible.
We would appreciate if someone can volunteer to coordinate the following:
Gold Coin Donation day
The role would require a member to contact universities / hospitals / professional bodies about our Turkish Student Nurse Fundraiser and the club and invite them to have a Gold Coin Awareness Day to assist our colleagues in Turkey.
Let us all work together to make this the best possible Rotary Club we can.
International Nurses Congress in Montreal Canada July 1st til 5th
Club members Mavis, Cecelia and Shelley at the International Council of Nurses Congress in Montreal from July 1st to 5th. Thank you Mavis and Cecelia for promoting the work of our club.
Australian College of Nursing - Nursing Forum Adelaide 9th- 11th August
A great opportunity to meet and network with thousands of colleagues for a three day conference
Past President Wendy has an extra registration for the event (valued at $1,135) and invites members of club to consider taking up the opportunity to join her. The main ask is that whichever member comes along you will be available to talk up the club at the conference at every opportunity you have. Flight and accommodation cost is not included - just a free registration. Contact Wendy at wendy@davaar.com.au if you would like the registration. Wendy will be giving a presentation on the Three Cs Cafe at the conference. https://www.acn.edu.au/events/national-nursing-forum
A member early bird registration is $820, before the 30th June or otherwise $1135 standard for non-members. 😊
Project Portfolio leads are Louise Webber & Jules Aitken. Louise and Jules are open to suggestions from members. Louise and Jules have recently emailed members to contact their local rotary clubs to tell them about our Fundraiser for the Turkish nurses. Please use the template provided and the recommendations for how to approach your local rotary club.
Education Lead
Past President Wendy will be covering the role of Education Lead for the club as Nicole is no longer able to take on this portfolio. Education sessions are presented on the 4th Tuesday of each month.
If you have an idea for a presenter / topics please let Wendy know, she would love to hear from you. Wendy can be contacted at wendy@davaar.com.au
Club Projects
We are a very busy Club - below is a snapshot of the projects that we are currently involved in.
Hello Rotarians As you are aware the Three C’s Cafe Check in Connect Chat is one of our major projects. The Three C’s Cafe offers a virtual space for colleagues to come into for a chat about professional matters of interest to them / and a space in which to be supported. The cafe is open to colleagues where ever they are in the world. The cafe is open to members of this club and non members. Wendy is currently running education sessions for members to learn how to facilitate this important service for our nursing colleagues.
Shelter Box is an exceptional organisation that our Club has partnered with. They provide emergency relief to people around the world who have been made homeless by natural disasters and conflict.
We have pledged to fund five Shelter Boxes each year for the next 3 years. The cost is $1000 per Shelter Box and we raise funds for this through raffles and events held at Education Conferences conducted by the Nurses for Nurses Network and Education at Sea.
A big thank you to the work of Sue, Jason and Louise to make this happen. Shelterbox is very active in Turkey and Syria due to the recent devastating earthquakes.
The Rotary Solar Case has been developed, first and foremost, to provide light in remote health centres, aiding health workers where the availability of electricity is problematic at the best of times. The ability to provide portable lights for village birthing assistants is a major priority in areas where women often give birth in village huts or village health centres where the light from kerosene lanterns or mobile phones is otherwise the best available alternative.
If you want to know the date of any of the Club Meetings or Events then go to the events page on the website.
Meeting agendas and minutes are sent out by the club Secretary attached to an email a few days before the meeting takes place. If you are not receiving those emails then contact the Club Secretary on secretary.gnmrotaryclub@gamail.com
