Presidents Update
Greetings GNMRC Members
Hello to you all from
President Mavis Mulaudzi
Hello fellow Rotarians

We certainly are a busy club.  There is much to report on since last bulletin.  The leadership team has met to discuss possible fundraising initiatives for the proposed assistance our club can provide to a nursing students who have been affected by the humanitarian crisis in Turkey and Syria.  Fellow club member, Maggie, has offered to decoupage and pot painting workshop.  Please see the flyer in the bulletin.

Thankyou to our club member, Rukhsana Azzi,  for your insightful presentation at our last education meeting.  The career path you have travelled as a midwife across a number of countries was inspiring and we learned importance of understanding culture of the women and their that you have supported.

We look forward to hearing from Nicole Purcell at our next education meeting on 28th March.  Nicole will discuss Recovery and Rehabilitation in Mental Health - Creative initiatives in Far North Queensland.  See the link below.

At our most recent general meeting our guest speaker was Paul Tinker from Pulse Staffing.  Paul presented information on nursing shortages in Australia and discussed how Pulse Staff recruits nurses for urban and rural areas.  He also outlined the new Australian National Aged Care Classification funding model (ANACC).

Our next general meeting will be 11th April

Koala Habitat Planting Event
We belong to District 9620and our district has been asked by DG Tim Keeler for another D9620 Tree Planting Day Challenge to help celebrate 100 years of Rotary in Queensland by encouraging all Clubs to plant 100 trees in their local area. This is planned for Sunday 23 April.
This event also allows all Clubs to continue to contribute to Rotary’s newest area of focus “Supporting The Environment” in their area.

The venue for this year’s planting is at the Secombe Street Park, Mansfield which is adjacent to last year’s planting site.

The target for the day is to plant 3000 trees as well as installation of some wildlife habitat elements. For the non Brisbane Clubs, if any of your Club members happen to be in Brisbane on the day, they would be more than welcome to join the team at Mansfield.
Karana Bellbowrie Rotary Club will once again be providing morning tea (including the very popular scones/jam/cream) for everyone.

Club Projects

We are a very busy Club - below is a snapshot of the projects that we are currently involved in.

The Three C's Cafe

Hello Rotarians
As you are aware the Three C’s Cafe Check in Connect Chat is one of our major projects. The Three C’s Cafe offers a virtual space for colleagues to come into for a chat about professional matters of interest to them / and a space in which to be supported. The cafe is open to colleagues where ever they are in the world. The cafe is open to members of this club and non members.

Wendy commenced an 8 week training course for new facilitators on March 1st.

Disaster Fund
Shelter Box is an exceptional organisation that our Club has partnered with. They provide emergency relief to people around the world who have been made homeless by natural disasters and conflict.

We have pledged to fund five Shelter Boxes each year for the next 3 years. The cost is $1000 per Shelter Box and we raise funds for this through raffles and events held at Education Conferences conducted by the Nurses for Nurses Network and Education at Sea.

A big thank you to the work of Sue, Jason and Louise to make this happen. Shelterbox is very active in Turkey and Syria due to the recent devastating earthquakes.  Wendy, charter president, donated $2 000 to shelterbox this February after the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

ICN Girl Child Education Fund

Project lead Cecelia Flomo invites members of the club who are interested in being involved in this project to contact her and then, as a team, they can determine future progress for the project

The Florence Nightingale International Foundation (FNIF), the charitable arm of ICN, launched the Girl Child Education Fund (GCEF) in 2005 with the mission of supporting access to education for the orphaned daughters of nurses in developing countries.
Rotary Solar Case
The Rotary Solar Case has been developed, first and foremost, to provide light in remote health centres, aiding health workers where the availability of electricity is problematic at the best of times. The ability to provide portable lights for village birthing assistants is a major priority in areas where women often give birth in village huts or village health centres where the light from kerosene lanterns or mobile phones is otherwise the best available alternative.
