We look forward seeing you all this Tuesday, 22nd October at our education meeting.
Our guest speaker is our own Charter President, Wendy McIntosh, who is presenting on her recent trip to Turkey and what she learned from our Turkish colleagues.
I am proud to share our club's recent recognition from Shelterbox. Our club has received a Gold Champion award (one of only 4 issued at the annual Shelterbox Champion Awards Night). It is a remarkable achievement and I would like to formally acknowledge the work that Jason and Sue have done in this space through fundraising activities conducted by the Nurses for Nurses Network and Education at Sea Conferences. They have raised more than $15 000 for our club's Shelterbox project since we chartered in 2020.
Our past president, Mavis Mulaudzi is a nominee in the African Health Excellence Awards. Professor Mavis is an academic whose leadership has impacted the Nursing profession nationally, within the African continent, and globally. Congratulations, Mavis.
I encourage you to take a look at the recent DG newsletter and the latest GIST. Links provided below in the bulletin. There is also an invitation for members to attend the presidential peace conference in Istanbul, Turkey 20-22 February 2025. See details below. The theme of the conference is Healing in a Divided World.
We continue to meet with our colleagues in Somaliland and the education programme is starting to take traction with our fellow members working with Wendy to create education videos.

If you have not yet done the Youth Protection training, now is an opportunity to do so. District 9620 have updated links and content, so jump on and familiarise yourself with the content and complete the online training. A reminder that Sue Walker is the GNMRC’s Youth Protection Coordinator
Shelter Box is an exceptional organisation that our Club has partnered with. They provide emergency relief to people around the world who have been made homeless by natural disasters and conflict.
We have pledged to fund five Shelter Boxes each year for the next 3 years. The cost is $1000 per Shelter Box and we raise funds for this through raffles and events held at Education Conferences conducted by the Nurses for Nurses Network and Education at Sea.
A big thank you to the work of Sue, Jason and Louise to make this happen. Shelterbox is very active in Turkey and Syria due to the recent devastating earthquakes.
The Rotary Solar Case has been developed, first and foremost, to provide light in remote health centres, aiding health workers where the availability of electricity is problematic at the best of times. The ability to provide portable lights for village birthing assistants is a major priority in areas where women often give birth in village huts or village health centres where the light from kerosene lanterns or mobile phones is otherwise the best available alternative.
If you want to know the date of any of the Club Meetings or Events then go to the events page on the website.
Meeting agendas and minutes are sent out by the club Secretary attached to an email a few days before the meeting takes place. If you are not receiving those emails then contact the Club Secretary on secretary.gnmrotaryclub@gamail.com
