Please take a moment to review all the news from our District Governor.  The most recent DG newsletter can be found on a link under the Information from District 9620.  Also I encourage you view the Gist 9620 newsletter on the link in this newsletter.   This week there is a good article on Lets lift the lid on Mental Illness walk  which takes place this Saturday 10th September in Maleny

All members are invited to join our colleagues in South Africa to attend a hybrid conference (in person or via link) on the 13-15th September.

Our club was approached by colleagues from the University of Pretoria to be involved in organising this conference many months ago. At the time Wendy was Club President and Mavis was PE. With your support we said yes we would participate and Mavis, Wendy and then Sally have been part of that organising committee.

You are invited to join this event virtually if you cannot attend in person to support our colleagues and also to hear some fantastic presentations about what our colleagues in S. Africa and beyond are doing.
PP Mavis is one of the Keynote speakers on the 14th September. Charter member Evelyn is a Keynote speaker on the 15th September
Wendy's abstract on the Three C's Cafe has been accepted and she will be presenting virtually from somewhere in the UK on either the 14th or 15th

As you will see on the program our GNMRC is promoted due to support members provided the organising committee. So please promote this program to your collegial networks and invite them to attend the conference.
Congratulations PP Mavis
Our own PP Mavis has been honoured with the Champion of Research Capacity Development and Transformation Award at this year's prestigious NRF Awards Ceremony.
From the Faculty of Health Sciences University of Pretoria....."Mavis' exceptional dedication to shaping the next generation of researchers and her commitment to promoting diversity within the scientific community have garnered well-deserved recognition.  Her work rooted in Ubuntu philosophy showcases a holistic approach to nursing practices that extend beyond borders.  Join us in celebrating her incredible achievement."

The Three C's Cafe

As you are aware the Three C’s Cafe Check in Connect Chat is one of our major projects. The Three C’s Cafe offers a virtual space for colleagues to come into for a chat about professional matters of interest to them / and a space in which to be supported. The cafe is open to colleagues where ever they are in the world. The cafe is open to members of this club and non members.

Cafes recommenced on Thursday 24th August

Disaster Fund
Shelter Box is an exceptional organisation that our Club has partnered with. They provide emergency relief to people around the world who have been made homeless by natural disasters and conflict.

We have pledged to fund five Shelter Boxes each year for the next 3 years. The cost is $1000 per Shelter Box and we raise funds for this through raffles and events held at Education Conferences conducted by the Nurses for Nurses Network and Education at Sea.

A big thank you to the work of Sue, Jason and Louise to make this happen. Shelterbox is very active in Turkey and Syria due to the recent devastating earthquakes.

Rotary Solar Case
The Rotary Solar Case has been developed, first and foremost, to provide light in remote health centres, aiding health workers where the availability of electricity is problematic at the best of times. The ability to provide portable lights for village birthing assistants is a major priority in areas where women often give birth in village huts or village health centres where the light from kerosene lanterns or mobile phones is otherwise the best available alternative.
