Meeting 13th December
Important News
We had a visit from our District Governor Tim Keeler. Tim met with the leadership team from 1800hrs then joined our meeting from 1830hrs. Tim spoke about the 6 characteristics of a good club:
1. A culture of leadership
2. Good communication
3. Good organization
4. Having projects (not just fundraising)
5. Relationships (both internal and external)
6. Having fun
Tim also spoke about the upcoming District 9620 Conference from 24th-26th March, 2023. The conference will be celebrating 100 years of Rotary in Queensland.
In appreciation of Tim's presentation, our club donated $250 to Rotary Health.

Three new members were inducted on 13th December. We warmly welcome Retche Pelin and Joanne Pabinguit, both from the Philippines and Dolly Akter, who is very proud to be our first member from Bangladesh.
Treasurer - Semi annual fees invoice has been sent.
A reminder from Treasurer Jeff that semi annual fees for Jan-June 2023 are due. Please let Jeff know if you do not wish to remain a member of the club so that we can remove your name for RI database and then we will not be charged fees for you. Jeff’s email is: jeffp5040@gmail.com.
Members if you are able to make payment by the due date that will be appreciated.
First meeting for 2023 Our first get together as a club in 2023 will be on Tuesday the 10th January and our guest speaker will be Craig Fitzpatrick from the World Continuing Education Alliance. We look forward to welcoming back all our members to the new year. See the link below.
President Elect Sally will be demonstrating a dish from Tanzania to welcome us into the new year. The recipe is now available in this bulletin.
A big thank you to all members who have registered with My Rotary between September and now.
As of the 6th December 2022, we have increased registration form 57% to 57.67% that means we still have 42.33% of our members who have not registered for My Rotary. Let's see if we can get to 100% before the DG visit on the 13th December.
My Rotary really is a rich resource of ideas about RI and different roles within clubs.
Nicole Purcell has the role of Education Lead for the club. Nicole is looking forward to ensuring quality education / information sessions for our members on the 4th Tuesday of each month.
If you have an idea for a presenter / topics please let Nicole know, she would love to hear from you. Nicole can be contacted at kelsoqueen29@gmail.com.
Club Projects
We are a very busy Club - below is a snapshot of the projects that we are currently involved in.
End Polio Now
The Three C's Cafe
We continued to offer the cafes every Thursday evening (Brisbane, Qld time) until the end of November. A meeting between the facilitators of the cafe was held December 15th. Cafes will recommence in February 2023. Please continue to advocate and promote the cafe with your colleagues through promoting our flyers in your tearooms, offices, and share / like / repost the flyer from our club LinkedIn, Social Media pages.
Shelter Box is an exceptional organisation that our Club has partnered with. They provide emergency relief to people around the world who have been made homeless by natural disasters and conflict.
We have pledged to fund five Shelter Boxes each year for the next 3 years. The cost is $1000 per Shelter Box and we raise funds for this through raffles and events held at Education Conferences conducted by the Nurses for Nurses Network and Education at Sea.
Treasurer Jeff is pleased to report that we have been able to donate our first $1,000.00 to Shelterbox for this Rotary Year. Again a big thank you to the work of Sue, Jason and Louise to make this happen. Shelterbox is very active in Pakistan currently due to the major flooding that has caused devastation recently.
Project lead Cecelia Flomo invites members of the club who are interested in being involved in this project to contact her and then, as a team, they can determine future progress for the project
The Florence Nightingale International Foundation (FNIF), the charitable arm of ICN, launched the Girl Child Education Fund (GCEF) in 2005 with the mission of supporting access to education for the orphaned daughters of nurses in developing countries.
The Rotary Solar Case has been developed, first and foremost, to provide light in remote health centres, aiding health workers where the availability of electricity is problematic at the best of times. The ability to provide portable lights for village birthing assistants is a major priority in areas where women often give birth in village huts or village health centres where the light from kerosene lanterns or mobile phones is otherwise the best available alternative.
December is Disease Prevention and Treatment Month
This is one of the Foundations Areas of Focus and one in which many of us would be aware of the numerous projects around the world supported by clubs and the Foundation. Look at your role in promoting improved health at home and abroad and supporting these vital programs that contribute not only to healthy communities but peaceful communities.
Disease prevention and treatment takes on many forms, from supporting studies to helping immunize people to improving drinking water and the sanitation infrastructure. The world relies on Rotary to tackle these global challenges.
If you want to know the date of any of the Club Meetings or Events then go to the events page on the website.
Meeting agendas and minutes are sent out by the club Secretary attached to an email a few days before the meeting takes place. If you are not receiving those emails then contact the Club Secretary on secretary.gnmrotaryclub@gamail.com
