Club Activities happening October / November 2023

Members, in addition to our Tuesday meetings, there are two activities occurring in Brisbane providing an opportunity for you to come together.

On the 9th October 1300-1700hrs - Rotarian and club member Maggie Harvey is hosting an event to assist raise funds for RI End Polio Now initiative (October is Polio Month for RI). The event will be a sip and paint event and Maggie will be providing food. The invite is for an $80.00 donation from this who wish to attend and that includes a painting activity, something to sip and something to eat. Maggie is able to host 25 people. A flyer will be sent out to members with more information.

On the 26th November (time to be confirmed) Maggie will host a Birthing Kit Assembly Day. Members who attended the meeting on the 9th August had the opportunity to hear from Simone Rickets about the Birthing Kits and Assembly days (video is available in members only section of our website) and members supported the club purchasing 200 kits which will be sent overseas to assist with sterility for women during birth.

Have you registered with MY Rotary yet ?

If you have, that's great, you have seen the multiple resources you can access.

On the 7th September 2022 we had 39.47% of our members who have registered with MY Rotary. Let us aim to reach 100% by the end of September this year.

Club Leadership Team

Following our leadership meeting on the 6th September we have some leadership changes to announce. Sue has stepped down from her role as Club Secretary and will take up the role of Public Relations (website, social media).

Rudson has stepped down from his role of Public Relations and will take up Club Secretary role.

As you know the Portfolio Lead for Grants position has been vacant for a couple of months. We are delighted to say that Jane Davies has volunteered to be portfolio lead for grants. As we had no other member volunteer for the role, the leadership team endorsed Jane as portfolio lead for grants at the leadership meeting. We look forward to being able to apply for and be successful in getting grants to assist us as a club with projects moving forward.

We still have one position up for grabs on the leadership team and that is Portfolio Lead for Projects. Sue has been in the position since charter and would now like to step down and allow another member to take it up. The role of Portfolio Lead for Projects responsible for checking in with members who lead individual projects and then provides a comprehensive projects update to the leadership team and to members at the meeting held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. The role provides a great opportunity for a member to become more familiar with all the club projects that we currently have. If you are interested in the role please contact Sue for more information. Th leadership team looks forward to working with and supporting a member in the Portfolio Lead for Projects role.

Club Social Events - Cruise Conference

This conference provides Rotarians with the opportunity to join together in fellowship to share information about successful projects and to learn from each other. It is by sharing information that our communities benefit from our knowledge, innovation, creativity, resourcefulness, and enthusiasm. Through Rotary we make the world a better place

The Global Nurses & Midwives Rotary Club invite you to join us as we explore this fabulous part of the world.

Optional Tours will be available at a number of ports where we will discover the sites but also join with fellow Rotarians from a local Club to gain an understanding of what they are doing and share our own experiences. It will be fabulous!

Projects

We are a very busy Club - below is a snapshot of the projects that we are currently involved in.
The Three C's Cafe
The Three C's Cafe Check-in, Connect, and Chat is a virtual cafe space facilitated by members of the GNMRC who have been trained to offer a supportive environment for Nurses and Midwives to share mutual experiences, concerns, and feelings in a confidential, safe space.

The cafe sessions are available via a zoom link which you will be given once you register for a session. Each cafe session will last one hour.

Disaster Fund
Shelter Box is an exceptional organisation that our Club has partnered with. They provide emergency relief to people around the world who have been made homeless by natural disasters and conflict.

We have pledged to fund five Shelter Boxes each year for the next 3 years. The cost is $1000 per Shelter Box and we raise funds for this through raffles and events held at Education Conferences conducted by the Nurses for Nurses Network and Education at Sea.

Treasurer Jeff is pleased to report that we have been able to donate our first $1,000.00 to Shelterbox for this Rotary Year. Again a big thank you to the work of Sue, Jason and Louise to make this happen. Shelterbox is very active in Pakistan currently due to the major flooding that has caused devastation recently.

ICN Girl Child Education Fund

Wendy McIntosh and Cecelia Flom head up this project.

The Florence Nightingale International Foundation (FNIF), the charitable arm of ICN, launched the Girl Child Education Fund (GCEF) in 2005 with the mission of supporting access to education for the orphaned daughters of nurses in developing countries.
Rotary Solar Case
The Rotary Solar Case has been developed, first and foremost, to provide light in remote health centres, aiding health workers where the availability of electricity is problematic at the best of times. The ability to provide portable lights for village birthing assistants is a major priority in areas where women often give birth in village huts or village health centres where the light from kerosene lanterns or mobile phones is otherwise the best available alternative.
Social Media & Website
We now have a page on LinkedIn.

If you are already a member of LinkedIn we would love you to connect with us...let us continue to grow awareness of our club, our projects and the Rotary international through our professional connections

Rudson is continually updating our club social media of Facebook and Instagram and Deborah Jackson updates our Twitter. As you feel OK to do so follow us and share postings that you think would be beneficial for colleagues in your organisations and collegial groups to view. Let us all work together to promote our fabulous Rotary Club.

As always, Rudson welcomes your input and comments and can be contacted on
The Theme for this Month is Membership

September is Basic Education and Literacy Month  Our goal is to strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education, and increase adult literacy. We support education for all children and literacy for children and adults.

Imagine Rotary, the theme for 2022-2023

The theme graphic was designed by an Australian indigenous artist to link with the Melbourne convention in 2023. Circle - connections to one another.
