Major initiative for the club - Turkish Student Nurse Fundraiser

What a brilliant two day fundraiser members of our club achieved this past Thursday and Friday on the Sunshine Coast.  A big thankyou to the GNMRC members Sue, Wendy, Louise, Jules, Pammie, Christina and Helen.  What a great example of our cause based club doing what we do in leading the way as nurses and midwives.  A big thankyou to all delegates and your support of us with provision of merchandise available for purchase.

Benji and his handler Karin Kolenko joined us. Benji has helped to raise millions of dollars over a number of years and we appreciate Karin's and Benji's assistance.      https://goldcoastbenji.com.au/

We are confident that with the other fund raising we have done, and donations from RC's E Club of Australia Nomads, Toowoomba East and RC St George, we have reached our fundraising target.  However, we are keen to keep going for another month.

Benji strikes again with Sue and Wendy
Congratulation Sue Walker

A highlight of the conference was presenting Sue Walker our charter secretary with a Paul Harris recognition award for the enormous work she has done for our GNMRC and for providing education to thousands of nurses in Queensland and beyond through the Nurses for Nurses Network.
Sue was also instrumental in organising our very successful conference.

Have you registered with MY Rotary yet ?

A big thank you to all members who have registered with My Rotary between September and now.

My Rotary really is a rich resource of ideas about RI and different roles within clubs.

Projects Portfolio Leads

Project Portfolio leads are Louise Webber & Jules Aitken.  Louise and Jules are open to suggestions from members.  Congratulations on the success of the fundraising initiatives so far for the Turkish Student Nurses!!

The portfolio of Education Lead for the club is currently vacant as Nicole Purcell has taken on a new role. Past President Wendy is currently managing this and looks forward to a current member taking on this position.  Please contact Wendy if you are keen to do so and she can walk you through the role.  The education / information sessions for our members on the 4th Tuesday of each month.

Club Projects
We are a very busy Club - below is a snapshot of the projects that we are currently involved in.

The Three C's Cafe
Hello Rotarians
As you are aware the Three C’s Cafe Check in Connect Chat is one of our major projects. The Three C’s Cafe offers a virtual space for colleagues to come into for a chat about professional matters of interest to them / and a space in which to be supported. The cafe is open to colleagues where ever they are in the world. The cafe is open to members of this club and non members.

Wendy is currently providing education on Monday evenings for members to become new facilitators.  Members who have already had the training are supporting this education.

Disaster Fund
Shelter Box is an exceptional organisation that our Club has partnered with. They provide emergency relief to people around the world who have been made homeless by natural disasters and conflict.

We have pledged to fund five Shelter Boxes each year for the next 3 years. The cost is $1000 per Shelter Box and we raise funds for this through raffles and events held at Education Conferences conducted by the Nurses for Nurses Network and Education at Sea.

A big thank you to the work of Sue, Jason and Louise to make this happen. Shelterbox is very active in Turkey and Syria due to the recent devastating earthquakes.

Rotary Solar Case
The Rotary Solar Case has been developed, first and foremost, to provide light in remote health centres, aiding health workers where the availability of electricity is problematic at the best of times. The ability to provide portable lights for village birthing assistants is a major priority in areas where women often give birth in village huts or village health centres where the light from kerosene lanterns or mobile phones is otherwise the best available alternative.
