Presidents Update
Greetings GNMRC Members
Hello to you all from
President Mavis Mulaudzi
I am honoured to be President of the Global Nurses and Midwives Rotary Club 2022-2023. As a Charter member I have been a big part of the journey for the initial year and a half of the club. My vision for the club, as I have been sharing with members, is ‘Ploughing back into our professions’. We have a wealth of experience and knowledge in colleagues who have retired, and it would be wonderful to have them share that with the GNMRC and become a member. Over the next few bulletins, you will learn more about me and my passions and how much I enjoy singing and laughing.

Club Changeover Tuesday 12 July
Our club changeover happens Tuesday 12th July. This is a great opportunity to review our past year and to hear the vision that President Mavis has for her Rotary year which is in alignment with RI President Jennifer Jones’s wish for all Rotarians to Imagine Rotary.
We will also be announcing three Paul Harris Fellows which will be presented to three extraordinary nurses/ midwives nominated for the award by you members of our Rotary Club.

Past President Wendy will open the zoom room from 1800hrs for meet, greet and fellowship. We will start proceedings at 1830hrs. Please invite colleagues, friends, family to join in this historic first for our young club….one president handing over to our new president.
Strategy Planning Night
A fun and productive strategic planning meeting was held on 6th July. Integrating feedback from the recent club health survey and building on club achievements in the last year I envisage a fun year ahead. We will send to you all the updated strategic plan for your consideration and feedback once it has been formatted. From our meeting on the 6th, cooking is going to be an important fun part of the year and Rotarian Shelley will start the cooking ball rolling with a damper recipe at our meeting on the 9th August.

From the Treasury Team
We thank Allison for the excellent job she has done as Treasurer since the club chartered in December 2020. We welcome Jeff to the role of Treasurer and he will keep us informed re our club finances, semi annual dues etc.

Jeff invites any member who is interested in learning about this important part of the club to contact him, he welcomes assistance in the role. Jeff can be contacted at: jeffp5040@gmail.com

Projects

We are a very busy Club - below is a snapshot of the projects that we are currently involved in.
The Three C's Cafe
The Three C's Cafe Check-in, Connect, and Chat is a virtual cafe space facilitated by members of the GNMRC who have been trained to offer a supportive environment for Nurses and Midwives to share mutual experiences, concerns, and feelings in a confidential, safe space.
The cafe sessions are available via a zoom link which you will be given once you register for a session. Each cafe session will last one hour.

Disaster Fund
Shelter Box is an exceptional organisation that our Club has partnered with. They provide emergency relief to people around the world who have been made homeless by natural disasters and conflict.

We have pledged to fund five Shelter Boxes each year for the next 3 years. The cost is $1000 per Shelter Box and we raise funds for this through raffles and events held at Education Conferences conducted by the Nurses for Nurses Network and Education at Sea.

ICN Girl Child Education Fund

Wendy McIntosh and Cecelia Flom head up this project.

The Florence Nightingale International Foundation (FNIF), the charitable arm of ICN, launched the Girl Child Education Fund (GCEF) in 2005 with the mission of supporting access to education for the orphaned daughters of nurses in developing countries.
Rotary Solar Case
The Rotary Solar Case has been developed, first and foremost, to provide light in remote health centres, aiding health workers where the availability of electricity is problematic at the best of times. The ability to provide portable lights for village birthing assistants is a major priority in areas where women often give birth in village huts or village health centres where the light from kerosene lanterns or mobile phones is otherwise the best available alternative.
Social Media & Website
Rudson is continually updating our club social media of Facebook and Instagram and Deborah Jackson updates our Twitter. As you feel OK to do so follow us and share postings that you think would be beneficial for colleagues in your organisations and collegial groups to view. Let us all work together to promote our fabulous Rotary Club.
As always, Rudson welcomes your input and comments and can be contacted on
The Theme for this Month is Transition Month

Rotary Transition Month reflects the changeover of RI President and Presidents in every Rotary Club around the world.

A month to consider the transition into a new Rotary theme and the year ahead as Rotarians.
Imagine Rotary, the theme for 2022-2023

The theme graphic was designed by an Australian indigenous artist to link with the Melbourne convention in 2023. Circle - connections to one another.

Education Session 26 July 2022

Joy Matthews is currently teaching at Central Queensland University and based in Bundaberg, QLD, Joy also works at a small rural multi-purpose hospital and health centre in rural Queensland. Before settling into teaching joy worked in the parts of Australia that most people never get to see, from the Tanami Desert to the Torres Strait Islands, and across the top end from the Indian Ocean Territory to Arnhem Land. Joy describes herself as a “MacGyver nurse”, where working in unusual locations with limited resources means you sometimes have to be a jack of all trades, creatively working with what you have, not what you wish you had!
