Strategy Planning Night

A fun and productive strategic planning meeting was held on 6th July.

Integrating feedback from the recent club health survey and building on club achievements in the last year I envisage a fun year ahead. We will send to you all the updated strategic plan for your consideration and feedback once it has been formatted.

From our meeting on the 6th, cooking is going to be an important fun part of the year and Rotarian Shelley will start the cooking ball rolling with a damper recipe at our meeting on the 9th August.

See Shelley's recipe further down in the Bulletin.

We welcome Jeff to the role of Treasurer and he will keep us informed re our club finances, semi annual dues etc.

Jeff invites any member who is interested in learning about this important part of the club to contact him, he welcomes assistance in the role. Jeff can be contacted at: jeffp5040@gmail.com

Projects

We are a very busy Club - below is a snapshot of the projects that we are currently involved in.
The Three C's Cafe
The Three C's Cafe Check-in, Connect, and Chat is a virtual cafe space facilitated by members of the GNMRC who have been trained to offer a supportive environment for Nurses and Midwives to share mutual experiences, concerns, and feelings in a confidential, safe space.
The cafe sessions are available via a zoom link which you will be given once you register for a session. Each cafe session will last one hour.

Disaster Fund
Shelter Box is an exceptional organisation that our Club has partnered with. They provide emergency relief to people around the world who have been made homeless by natural disasters and conflict.

We have pledged to fund five Shelter Boxes each year for the next 3 years. The cost is $1000 per Shelter Box and we raise funds for this through raffles and events held at Education Conferences conducted by the Nurses for Nurses Network and Education at Sea.

ICN Girl Child Education Fund

Wendy McIntosh and Cecelia Flom head up this project.

The Florence Nightingale International Foundation (FNIF), the charitable arm of ICN, launched the Girl Child Education Fund (GCEF) in 2005 with the mission of supporting access to education for the orphaned daughters of nurses in developing countries.
Rotary Solar Case
The Rotary Solar Case has been developed, first and foremost, to provide light in remote health centres, aiding health workers where the availability of electricity is problematic at the best of times. The ability to provide portable lights for village birthing assistants is a major priority in areas where women often give birth in village huts or village health centres where the light from kerosene lanterns or mobile phones is otherwise the best available alternative.
Social Media & Website
Rudson is continually updating our club social media of Facebook and Instagram and Deborah Jackson updates our Twitter. As you feel OK to do so follow us and share postings that you think would be beneficial for colleagues in your organisations and collegial groups to view. Let us all work together to promote our fabulous Rotary Club.
As always, Rudson welcomes your input and comments and can be contacted on
The Theme for this Month is New Leadership Month

In Rotary, July is a time of new beginnings, a time to reconnect with each other across distances and differences and to respond to change, a time to show Rotary Opens Opportunities.

Imagine Rotary, the theme for 2022-2023

The theme graphic was designed by an Australian indigenous artist to link with the Melbourne convention in 2023. Circle - connections to one another.

Education Session 26 July 2022

Joy Matthews is currently teaching at Central Queensland University and based in Bundaberg, QLD, Joy also works at a small rural multi-purpose hospital and health centre in rural Queensland. Before settling into teaching joy worked in the parts of Australia that most people never get to see, from the Tanami Desert to the Torres Strait Islands, and across the top end from the Indian Ocean Territory to Arnhem Land. Joy describes herself as a “MacGyver nurse”, where working in unusual locations with limited resources means you sometimes have to be a jack of all trades, creatively working with what you have, not what you wish you had!

with Shelley Nowlan
Introducing the damper
Damper is a bread made from wheat-based dough. Flour, salt and water, with some butter if available, is lightly kneaded and baked in the coals of a campfire, either directly, or within a camp oven over a fire.  However, we will do the cooking in a contemporary house hold oven.  When cooked as smaller, individually-sized portions, these damper ‘bush scones’ are often called ‘Johnny Cakes’.
Our Club Information Brochure
We have created a Global Nurses and Midwives Club Brochure that we can use to give out to people in they are interested in joining us or want to know what we are about.

Please have a look at the Brochure and distribute it to Nurses and Midwives who you think would be interested in Joining our Club.
