Last education meeting PP Wendy shared her experiences after her trip to Turkey and meeting with our Turkish colleagues.
Jason, Sue, Wendy with Professor Esra Ugur from the Acibadem Uni.  Professor Esra has been supporting the student nurses with our club donations.
Delegates, staff and PhD students who spent time telling us about nursing and health in Turkey
Lisa, one of the delegates in Turkey won the bag a square fundraiser and generously donated her winnings to Shelterbox.  $700 was raised.
"We are so honoured to invite you and your club to our final fundraising event for our international project, R.I.S.E. (Renovation in Su’u for Education). If we haven’t talked your ear off about it already, this project has been our baby for the past year and we have been working so hard to reach our goal of $25, 000.

We have quite literally worked nonstop to organise a renovation of an entire library that is currently rusted, termite-infested and is severely lacking books and usable work spaces. Our goal is to give the students of Su’u (a remote village on the island of Malaita in the Solomon Islands) a place where they can learn, relax and study, ultimately giving them the gift of education- something that could allow them to open any door and follow any dream they wish.

We already have $18, 000 of our goal and with this final event, Soiree for Su’u, and your support, we are hoping to achieve our goal.
Your club has already supported so much and we would be honoured to have you there and supporting us again for this final leg of R.I.S.E before our team of 15 volunteers venture off to the Solomon Islands in January.

These are the details:

Location: The Ship Inn (Southbank)
Time: Sunday the 1st of December 11:00am - 3:00pm
Dress: Smart casual
Details: A Sunday afternoon of canapes and conversations with some performances from the best music students in Brisbane.

Join peacebuilders from around the world for the 2025 Rotary Presidential Peace Conference, 20-22 February, in Istanbul, Türkiye, to explore ways to create environments that foster peace and understanding.

With the theme of Healing in a Divided World, the conference offers a unique opportunity to connect with Rotary members, partners, and thought leaders committed to addressing important peacebuilding issues of our time.

Through dialogue, interactive workshops, and insightful presentations, we’ll cover topics such as:
  • Peace in a polarized world
  • Technology, media, and peacebuilding
  • Environmental issues in peacebuilding
  • Making peace last
Led by 2024-25 Rotary International President Stephanie A. Urchick and held at the Hilton Istanbul Bomonti Hotel & Conference Center, the conference will also recognize Rotary’s contributions to advancing peace through our peace and conflict resolution area of focus and our Rotary Peace Centers and mark the launch of our newest peace center in partnership with Bahçeşehir University in Istanbul.

Learn more about the conference and presentations at rotary.org/Istanbul25 and register today!

Consider donating the price of a cup of coffee
Have you considered forgoing a cup of coffee and instead donating the money to one of our projects once a week?
See the details below from Treasurer Jeff on how to set up regular payments.
Disaster Fund
Shelter Box is an exceptional organisation that our Club has partnered with. They provide emergency relief to people around the world who have been made homeless by natural disasters and conflict.

We have pledged to fund five Shelter Boxes each year for the next 3 years. The cost is $1000 per Shelter Box and we raise funds for this through raffles and events held at Education Conferences conducted by the Nurses for Nurses Network and Education at Sea.

A big thank you to the work of Sue, Jason and Louise to make this happen. Shelterbox is very active in Turkey and Syria due to the recent devastating earthquakes.
Rotary Solar Case
The Rotary Solar Case has been developed, first and foremost, to provide light in remote health centres, aiding health workers where the availability of electricity is problematic at the best of times. The ability to provide portable lights for village birthing assistants is a major priority in areas where women often give birth in village huts or village health centres where the light from kerosene lanterns or mobile phones is otherwise the best available alternative.
