Presidents Report
Greetings GNMRC Members
Hello to you all

Charter President Wendy McIntosh

This has been another tough week for the world and I feel devastated for the citizens of Afghanistan and especially for the women and children and the citizens of Haiti. Let us hold the citizens of those countries in our thoughts and consider how we can add our voice to the voice of the ICN in lending support to our professional colleagues.

I am pleased that Shelterbox has already sent much supplies to the citizens of Haiti and we can feel very proud that the $5,000.00 that we have pledged for each year for three years is already being put to tremendous use.

We are setting up a specific Shelterbox bank account as part of our clubs bank accounts. When we have the account number, we will promote it in the club bulletin and you can donate money to the account knowing that it is going to save the lives of people in disaster parts of the world. Each time we get to $1,000.00 in that account we will transfer money to Shelterbox.

AGM - our opportunity to choose a new President and leadership team for 2022-2023

As we move through August 2021 - we move closer to our AGM on 9th November 1830hrs (Qld time).

The AGM is where members vote on the new President and Leadership Team for the Rotary year 1st July 2021-30th June 2022. I invite all members to consider nominating themselves for the different positions. Being President, being part of the leadership team offers so many different ways to develop and expand your knowledge and input of the club and Rotary and connect with other Rotary Clubs around the world. We will be sending every member nomination forms in October.

Writer of articles about our club, about our projects

Debra Jackson AO and I have been working on an article to be submitted to The Hive (ACN) journal, we will let you know when it is published. We will be commencing one for the Rotary Down Under magazine which is specifically for Rotarians.

I invite all members to email me your thoughts about being a member of our club and we will integrate what we can into the article wendy@davaar.com.au

New member proposed

Associate Professor Christina Parker - QUT. Christina attended our meeting last week and is very motivated to join our club. Christina's professional background has been her love of wound care and management. Louise Webber is the club member sponsor for Christina. Christina has expressed an interest in the mentoring of student nurses/midwives that we want to do in the GNMRC. Christina's wish to become a member has been endorsed by our club's leadership team, it is now up to you the members to vote. You have until Friday 27th August 2021 to contact me if you have any concerns about Christina becoming a member of the GNMRC.

Maggie Harvey - I am delighted to say that members have accepted Maggie's wish to become a member of our club. We will plan to induct Maggie on Tuesday 14th September - which is an evening meeting 1830hrs (Qld, Brisbane time)

Strategic Plan for the club 2021-2022, 2022-2023, 2023-2024

Hopefully, you have had time to read and consider the strategic plan that was sent out in the last bulletin. If you have any questions, ideas, additions for the strategic plan let us know. We will vote on this strategic plan at our meeting on Tuesday 24th August 0700hrs (Qld, Australia time).

Projects

Our Rotary Solar Boxes have been built, due to lockdown, we are not able to get them up to Brisbane at this point. Rest assured Darcy Geale is assisting us as much as he can to get our cases to PNG as soon as it is safe to do so. I will keep you updated as I know.

Aminata Maternal Foundation - my appreciation for the members who attended our discussion meeting on Wednesday 18th August to discuss:

a) whether the club wanted to be involved in working with Aminata and her foundation,

b) if so in what ways.

What a great discussion with an expressed interest that:

a) as a club we be involved in some way and

b) that we require further discussions to determine the best way/s for us to assist - perhaps fundraising activities, perhaps assisting to build capacity and sustainability for a midwifery workforce in Sierra Leonie. It was great having Rotarian Tracy at the meeting to share her experiences of working with midwives in Tanzania and PNG and to consider how programs she has run with teams in those countries could be adapted for Sierra Leone.

The fantastic news is that Aminata shall join us for another meeting to keep progressing discussion and identify possibilities. So if you are free on Wednesday 1st September at 1830hrs (Qld Australia time) come and join in the discussion, be part of the idea creations. Same zoom link as our club meetings

Rotary Monthly Theme  for August Membership and Extension

All members are invited in this Rotary year to -
"Each one Bring one"

Like clubs around the world, we aim to double our membership numbers in this Rotary year. You are invited to identify colleagues whom you think would like to be a part of our club and who can help us contribute to the projects and service we do as Rotarians.

Invite them to join our meetings so that we can meet them and they can meet us.

It would be great to have more student nurses/midwives as members. We have such a great group of mentors who can assist guide and support students on their professional journey.

Club Social Activities Group -

Looking forward to hearing what Cheryl and Mhairi have in store for us for a club virtual activities event.
